Letters to the Editors
SAY ‘NAY’ TO Ms. Brown called me in the spring to discuss several subjects, including my leaving the IGPE. I suggested that she step down and start a separate laser hair removal organization rather than destroying the IGPE. Her answer: “I’m billing $18,000 a month in laser.” The thing about changing the name and emphasis of the IGPE [“Name that Guild!” Hair Route, Issue number 88, page 14] is not about permanent hair removal; it’s about money, plain and simple. Ms. Brown promised to send me statistics she claimed to have, showing that laser hair removal “works.” She never did. And none of the properly performed studies I’ve read concluded that laser hair removal is permanent after three months. Like dictators past, Ms. Brown has declared herself “President for Life” of the IGPE. Early on, she even changed the by-laws to enable her to keep her stranglehold on the organization. Original by-laws allowed only two terms for an elected president. She now rules with an iron hand, preventing other board members from doing their jobs without her constant interference and control. Recently I spoke with Fino Gior, a highly respected man of intelligence, who founded the IGPE in 1979. Mr. Gior is willing to assume leadership of the organization temporarily, in order to protect its total destruction and preserve the integrity of its original Charter (proven needle electrology only) and its bylaws, which are presently being corrupted. (See Section 3. B. Expulsion b. Verifiable use of methods not sanctioned by the Guild.) Now it’s up to the IGPE members. Do you really want to watch this previously strong voice for professional electrolysis go down the drain in the name of ego and the almighty dollar? Where are you, the voices of reason and ethical behavior? The IGPE is your organization. If you want it to endure, you should speak out with your vote at the next IGPE meeting in April. Like Mr. Gior, I’m nearing retirement. Whether the IGPE survives or not will likely have little or no affect on me or my practice. But I’ve watched electrolysis come a long way in the twenty-plus years I’ve been in business. I’d hate to see a good organization, which many of us worked hard to save – especially during the litigation triumph over the electronic tweezer – fail now because it has such a greedy leadership. The IGPE’s future, and that of the profession, rests with you its members.

SAY ‘NAY’ TO PARASITES
You are a parasite if: All the hype about laser hair removal has caused my electrolysis business to suffer. And now, with the events of September 11, I’m not sure if I’ll still be in the profession a year from now. But at least I can say I’ve given it my all, and not been a parasite. For those that really do work for our profession: Thank you so much.
