Instant diagnosis coming soon to N. America
Diagnostic "quick cards" that use a drop of blood for almost instant diagnosis for conditions that usually take days by conventional testing, may soon be available to medical care facilities in North America. The testing cards cost a fraction of standard tests. A biotechnology company in the U.K., Bio-Diagnostics, has applied to the Food and Drug Administration for their use in the U.S.
In Europe and Australia where the quick cards are currently in use, three sexually transmitted diseases and three kidney-related conditions can be diagnosed. In the next two years the company intends to have 20 to 30 cards available, including tests for meningitis, mumps and measles.
